Torta al Cacao

‘Buon cibo’ means ‘good food’ in Italian. That’s what I love… It’s wonderful as it brings family and friends together. My blog will show a lovely variety of recipes and tips for you to enjoy and share with friends.

I visited Italy last summer and loved the food. Sat in a cafe on Lake Garda I ate the most gorgeous chocolate cake (pictured) and was inspired to recreate it at home.


Torta al Cacao

Serves 8


8oz/225g softened butter

8oz/225g golden caster sugar

2tsp vanilla extract

4 free range eggs

7oz/200g self raising flour

1oz/25g good quality cocoa powder

200g Nutella

200g good quality dark chocolate, extra for decorating



Preheat the oven to 180degrees. Grease two 7″ cake tins.

Cream the butter and sugar together and add the vanilla. Add the eggs one at a time, beating until well combined.

Sift the flour and cocoa and add to the wet mixture gradually. Evenly share between the two cake tins and put them in the oven for 25-30mins until cooked through.

Cool on a cooling rack completely before decorating. Spread the Nutella onto one cake and place the other on top. Melt the chocolate and coat all over the cake for a glossy finish. Grate some chocolate on top and serve! Buon appetito.
